Layla Cordero is a family law attorney with compassion, ambition, and integrity. Family Law matters are inherently emotionally difficult, and Layla’s deep sense of empathy is what drove her toward family law. From the start of her legal journey in 2014, she knew that family Law was her calling and began to volunteer as a legal advocate for a rural domestic violence agency. In 2015, Layla became employed by the agency and performed family law related paralegal tasks while attending Lincoln Law School of Sacramento on weeknights. Although she worked full-time and commuted over 22 hours per week, Layla made the Dean’s List in her first year of law school. Thereafter, she obtained the Faculty Achievement Award for earning the highest grade in her Family Law course among 91 other law students.
In 2017, Layla became a Certified Law Student and began to practice family law under the supervision of the agency’s attorney. Already having experience handling divorce and custody matters, in 2019, Layla graduated from Lincoln Law School cum laude and received special recognition at graduation for her achievements. Shortly after graduation, Layla took the California State Bar Exam and passed on her first attempt. By the time she left the non-profit sector to pursue private practice, she had worked her way up to the Director of Legal Services position at the agency.
In 2020, Layla left the non-profit sector to join the distinguished and well-respected Bay Area divorce and child custody firm, Lee Family Law, Inc. There, she spent one year learning the ins and outs of high-asset, complex family law matters.
In 2021, Layla opened Layla Cordero Law with the hopes of returning to her roots- helping those who need assistance in her local community.
Layla’s pet peeves include sloppy work, wasting time, and getting into cars that are low on gas.
Layla is a divorce lawyer, but also a real person. She lives in rural El Dorado County with her husband and teenage daughter on a small ranch with llamas, alpacas, sheep, chickens, a goat, five dogs, and three cats. Many of her animals are rescues. She has a wide range of hobbies which include gardening, ATV riding, shopping, and animal husbandry.
Additionally, Layla is an avid performance car enthusiast. In 2024, Layla and her husband raced each other at Sacramento Raceway Park prior to its closer. She hopes to one day race (and beat) her husband at Sonoma Raceway.
Alexandria Cotton (lovingly known as “Ali”) attended Pepperdine University and graduated magna cum laude in 2020. She majored in political science, minored in sociology, and completed her bachelor’s degree in just three years.
From there, she went straight into law school at the University of Southern California right as the COVID-19 pandemic was closing in on the entire country. Her entire first year of law school was conducted online as a result. Regardless of the challenges of the pandemic during her 1L classes, Ali maintained excellent remarks from professors and engaged a strong legal community as a member of the Women’s Law Association, Black Law Student’s Association, Women of Color Collective, Family Law Society, and the school’s Mock Trial Team.
During her law school journey, Ali felt drawn to practice family law and knew she had to pursue it. Ali’s big heart and genuine desire to help people as a career is so strong, she has never considered another type of law.
Ali decided to become a lawyer because she wanted to help people. She feels lucky to practice in a field where she can help individuals on a daily basis in what can often be the most important facet of their lives.
After Being sworn into the California State Bar, within a month of receiving her passing results, she obtained her first attorney position here, as an associate attorney at Layla Cordero Law.
Ali is an excellent writer, stays calm under pressure, and is client focused. The firm is incredibly fortunate to have Ali on the team.
Alexandria’s hobbies include thrifting, reading, and investing a lot of time into a creative project only to abandon it for a month and eventually come back to it to repeat the process. She also loves spending time with her dog, a German Shepherd mix named Lola.
Danyell joined the firm in 2022, bringing with her a diverse background in banking, accounting, administrative assistance, and social services.
Danyell and Layla met in 2019 when Danyell began volunteering at the domestic violence agency where Layla worked. She served as a certified Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Counselor from 2019 to 2021 and has continued with trauma informed care training and practices since.
She first came to work for the firm as the office manager, where she served in that position for over two years, taking over the majority of administrative tasks for Layla. Loving the firm’s trauma-informed philosophies and wanting to work more directly with clients, in late 2022, she began taking courses to obtain her Paralegal Certificate.
Danyell completed her Paralegal Certificate Program from the University of the Pacific in the winter of 2024 and is now serving as the firm’s Senior Paralegal. Danyell is highly organized, dedicated, and possesses a strong work ethic.
Like Layla, Danyell embodies integrity and compassion. She also possesses a level of empathy that is often lacking in this field. In her free time, Danyell enjoys relaxing by the water, reading, and cooking. She is a mother of three, an avid coffee drinker, and enjoys spending time outdoors.
